3. PROJECT 2

3.1 Field Study

After we decided on which proposal to continue with, which was Proposal 3: Shaded Sitting Areas in Titiwangsa Park, we set a date and time to meet up to do our field study. While there, we came across many existing sitting areas, both shaded and unshaded as can be seen below.

Most of the sitting areas were unshaded, but there were also a lot of trees and greenery around to act as shades.

Besides that, we scouted some potential locations to add on our proposed structures while walking around the park.

At the same time, we also conducted a few interviews with the park visitors we came across, most of the questions asked were about the heat and if there was a need for more shades at the park. We ended up with a total of 5 interviews.

Overall, while Titiwangsa Park was quite hot and sunny, it was still a fun experience conducting a field study at the park.

3.2 Process

Over the next 2 days, we spent time deciding on which roles to take on for the slides. Xin Yean and Xi Tien did the research, Nicole did the observations, I did the interview transcripts and results, and Jia Xuan and Yee Leng did the design modifications.

Figure 3.2.1 Interview TranscriptsWeek 4 (27/2/2026)

I started by listening to the interviews and writing down whatever was said during them, ending up with what is seen here. I figured it was quite messy, so I also decided to clean them up.

Figure 3.2.2 Cleaned TranscriptsWeek 5 (2/3/2026)

I ended up removing filler words like "Umm" and "Hmm" and bolding the interviewer's questions to make the transcripts cleaner and easier to read.

Here are the results that were gathered from the interviews (can also be seen in the last slide of Figure 3.2.2):

The main concern shared between all the visitors was the heat, while some also brought up a few other issues like poor maintenance/unfinished renovations, and trash.

Once that was done, I proceeded with adding captions to the interview recordings since a few of them were conducted in Mandarin.

5. REFLECTION

For me, this task went a lot smoother than Task 1. We started by conducting a field study at Titiwangsa Park, and it was quite fun because it was my first time visiting the park. During our visit, we interviewed several visitors and gathered their responses to understand their experiences in the park. From the interviews, we were able to identify a few key issues. The most common concern being the heat, which directly supports our proposal to introduce shaded seating areas in the park. Overall, the process was pretty interesting and helped us better understand how people use the space and what improvements could make the park more comfortable for visitors.
