2. PROCESS WORK

2.1 Audio Dubbing

Figure 2.1.1 Audio Dubbing Exercise Slides, Week 3 (4/5/2026)

Mr. Kannan started by providing us a presentation slides with instructions for the assignment.

Figure 2.1.2 Audio Breakdown Sheet, Week 4 (8/5/2026)

Before starting, we had to work in groups of 3 to fill up an audio breakdown sheet. I was in charge of filling in the sound effects and looking for the appropriate audios for each, which I mainly used Pixabay for.

Once we were done with the breakdown, I moved on to recording my dialogue. I only used a cardboard box to reduce background noises since I didn't have any foam.

I imported all my recordings into Premiere Pro, synced the dialogue to the video, then adjusted the volume based on the recommended volumes given in the slides (Figure 2.1, Slide 6). After that, I continued by changing the pitch of the voice using the Pitch Shifter tool. I also had to re-record a few lines, especially the yelling parts, as I realised the audio didn't really match up and sounded wrong.

Once I changed the audios to the new ones, I proceeded with the hard and ambient sound effects. I imported them into Premiere Pro and adjusted them based on the video. For most of the ambient sound effects and a few hard sound effects, I applied a fade in/out effect using Effects > Crossfade > Constant Power to make it less abrupt.

2.2 Sound Shaping

Figure 2.2.1 Original Recording, Week 9 (14/6/2026)

After the exercises we did in class, I proceeded with recording my own voice for the task.

Figure 2.2.2 Parametric Equalizer Settings (Phone Call on Left, Closet on Right), Week 9 (17/6/2026)

For the phone call and inside the closet effect, I kept the settings the same/similar to what was taught in class. I wanted the muffled audio to be just slightly louder, so I altered the settings a little bit.

For the other effects, I played around and experimented with the all the settings until I was satisfied.

3. REFLECTION

This task was pretty straightforward and fun, though it did require a lot of recordings of our own, which I always felt was a bit awkward. For the audio dubbing exercise, I found it quite hard to match up my voiceover to the video, so I used the actual clip from the movie as a reference when recording. As for the sound shaping exercise, it required a lot of experimentation. I spent a lot of time playing around with the reverb settings especially for the toilet/bathroom effect. It was also interesting to explore a new software as this was my first time using Audition. All in all, I enjoyed this task and also learnt a lot of new things about audio editing.
