3. REFLECTION

Experience

Looking back on the semester, I found this class both challenging and enjoyable. Most of the projects involved a lot of trial and error, and there were many moments where I felt unsure about my ideas or the direction I was taking. The final few weeks were especially hectic, so I often had to work under time pressure while balancing other assignments. Even so, I really enjoyed the creative freedom this class offered. Compared to Typography in Semester 1, I felt more encouraged to experiment, develop my own concepts, and explore different design possibilities.

Observations

Throughout the semester, I noticed that good planning could have saved me a lot of time, as many of my projects required constant revisions and adjustments. I also realised that balancing creativity with functionality was one of the biggest challenges, especially when trying to maintain readability while creating visually interesting designs. Although having more creative freedom made the projects more exciting, it also made decision-making more difficult because there were often many possible directions to choose from. Looking back, I also made quite a few mistakes along the way, but each revision helped improve the final outcome.

Findings

Overall, this class taught me that good typography is not just about creating something that looks visually appealing, but also about making thoughtful design decisions that balance concept, consistency, and usability. I became more patient with the design process and more comfortable experimenting with different ideas before settling on a final solution. Although the projects were often stressful and time-consuming, I am proud of how my work developed throughout the semester, and I feel that I have grown both creatively and technically as a designer.
