TECHNIQUES APPLIED
PROJECT 1A
In the digital collage, I used masking and the eraser tool to clean up edges of specific elements, ensuring they blended smoothly into the composition. The polygonal lasso tool helped me crop out the boy and a spiky background element precisely. I also applied effects like invert and hue/saturation to the repeated frames around him, emphasising contrast and adding a cool visual effect.

For the physical collage, I used a balanced composition to guide the viewer’s eye naturally across the piece. I also used repetition with the eyes to create an interesting effect and to strengthen the overall design.
PROJECT 2B
For the Hearst Mansion project, I used the quick selection tool to mask both Shazam and myself from my original photo. I then applied match colour adjustment to blend us into the background, adjusted hue/saturation for the reflection in the water, and added a ripple effect to match the natural movement of the water.

For the image recolouring, I selected individual parts with the quick selection tool and refined the edges using select and mask with the refine edge brush tool. I coloured over the parts with the brush tool with a clipping mask and added a soft light blending mode, letting the recoloured areas blend into the original image.
REFLECTION
Throughout these exercises, I learned a lot about composition and photo editing techniques. The collage tasks helped me understand how to create visual harmony and organise elements effectively, while the Photoshop exercises allowed me to explore different adjustment layers and improve my editing skills. I found the refine edge brush tool especially interesting, since I never knew how people achieved smooth and clean background removals. Although some parts were challenging, I found the overall process enjoyable and helpful for developing both my creative and technical abilities.
