WEEK 1

This week, we were taught how to use Adobe Premiere Pro. We were given 2 different videos to edit. The first one, Mints, had the clips arranged in order, while the second one, Doritos, had the clips randomly numbered, meaning we had to arrange them ourselves.

Figure 1.3 Doritos OutcomeWeek 1 (23/4/2026)

Besides that, we also had to watch and shortlist 3 Zach King videos with descriptions on why we chose them.

Figure 1.4 Zach King Video #1Week 1 (25/4/2026)

I chose this first video particularly because of how smoothly the Alexa turned into an astronaut, which was unexpected. The floating of the objects were also really clean and added to the surreal feeling of the scene. I find it interesting because even through the effect itself is quite simple, it still manages to completely change how the scene is perceived and makes it feel more magical and engaging to watch.

Figure 1.5 Zach King Video #2Week 1 (25/4/2026)

I picked this video mainly because it reminded me of the videos I used to watch as a kid, when I wasn't thinking about how they were made. Now, I can see how the Lego helicopter transforms from a toy into a life-sized version of the same thing which can even be entered. I find this interesting because it shows how visual effects can completely change scale and reality in a way that feels believable to the viewer.

I chose this video because of the portal effects used. Even if its one of the more basic effects used, I still thought it was creatively used in this scene. The two different sides of the portal also help guide the viewer’s attention throughout the location and make the movement between spaces feel more structured and clear.

WEEK 2

Our exercises this week were to film a video about a stalker using as many shots we learnt as possible, with captions in the edited video stating the shot used, and to also edit the Lalin video following the given storyboards.

For aynchronous study, we had to answer a few questions regarding the three act structure for both Lalin and Everything Everywhere All At Once.

LALIN

Act 1: The film starts with an introduction to Lalin, who wears a mask. She leaves Thailand for Japan to escape bullying and creates her new identity as a beautiful net idol. This part introduces the main conflict between her real self and her fake online image.
Act 2: Lalin grows close to a man named Nut, whom she met through social media. She feels happy talking to him, but she is also scared he will find out the truth about her. This part highlights her struggle between wanting love and fearing rejection.
Act 3: Nut comes to Japan to meet her in real life. Lalin feels nervous and unsure about revealing her true self to him. Ultimately, she must face the truth and make an important decision about revealing herself.

Inciting Incident: Lalin begins chatting with Nut online. Before that, she was hidden behind her fake online identity. This highlights the gap between her actual identity and her online image.
Midpoint Scene: Nut wants to meet Lalin in person. This changes everything because she can no longer hide behind her screen. It increases the tension and forces her to face reality.
Climax Scene: Nut arrives in Japan to meet Lalin in person. She is forced to reveal her real face to him after hiding it for so long. This is the turning point where the outcome of her choices becomes clear.

Theme: Lalin is about insecurity, self-acceptance and the pressure to appear perfect on social media.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

Act 1: The film introduces Evelyn Wang, who is overwhelmed by her failing laundromat, family problems, and an IRS audit. Her ordinary life is disrupted when she learns about the existence of the multiverse. This sets up the main conflict between her stressful reality and the many possible lives she could have lived.
Act 2: Evelyn begins jumping between different universes and experiences different versions of herself. She slowly gains new abilities while also becoming more confused and emotionally exhausted. This part shows her struggle to understand her situation while also dealing with her broken relationship with her daughter.
Act 3: Evelyn faces the final conflict against Jobu Tupaki and the chaos of the multiverse. She chooses to stop fighting with violence and instead tries to understand and connect with others. In the end, she shifts her focus from winning the fight to repairing what is broken in her family.

Inciting Incident: Evelyn is contacted by Alpha Waymond, who tells her she must help save the multiverse. Before this, she was only focused on her everyday problems. This pushes her into a situation far beyond anything she has experienced before.
Midpoint Scene: Evelyn fully experiences multiple versions of herself at the same time and learns how to jump between universes. She starts to understand her power and the scale of the situation, which pushes her from confusion into active involvement.
Climax Scene: Evelyn confronts Jobu Tupaki and chooses empathy instead of destruction. She refuses to give in to hopelessness and instead tries to understand her daughter. This becomes the moment where she breaks the cycle of conflict and changes the direction of the story.

Theme: The story is about letting go of the pressure to live a perfect life and learning to accept reality as it is. Instead of feeling lost or thinking nothing matters, it shows the importance of choosing kindness and staying connected to the people around you.

WEEK 3

This week we had a shooting exercise where we were required to do 5 test shots based on the given examples.

WEEK 4

This week was used to focus on the Audio Dubbing project which can be found through this link: Project 1.

WEEK 5

In week 5, we (as groups) conducted a trial shoot for our second project, which is the movie trailer. I took on the role as the camera assistant, helping the D.O.P. with the recording process.

After we recorded the shots, I imported them to my laptop and shared it out to the rest of the group for editing.

Figure 5.2 Shots, Week 5 (18/5/2026)

The first shot especially was quite loud in the background, so I used the noise reduction tool to tone down the background noise. I also adjusted the second clip's volume to be lower to match the first.
