TECHNIQUES APPLIED

PROJECT 2A
I used gradients, specifically photographic toning, as taught in the tutorials, to give my work a cool, stylised effect. Clipping masks were applied to keep elements within the main subject, while blending modes helped integrate the gradients naturally into the images. I also adjusted opacity where needed to tone down the photographic gradients and avoid them being too harsh.

PROJECT 2B
During the photoshoot, I shot from the front and used a sheet of baking paper to diffuse the light from my lamp, with two white drawing paper sheets as the background. For the editing, I used the quick selection and eraser tools to clean up the masks, added shadows with the pen tool plus blurring and lowered opacity, and created a gradient background with a multiply blending mode added so the original shadows of the cans showed through. Large, bold text was used to draw attention, and hue/saturation and levels adjustments were applied to correct the lighting of the batteries after compositing them onto the cans.

REFLECTION

Overall, I found project 2 to be interesting to work on. The double exposure exercise exposed me to many new tools I didn't know existed, such as the photographic toning, and the conceptual product photo manipulation pushed me to think more creatively. I also got the chance to play around with the blending modes, which helped me understand how they work more. Altogether, the process throughout the whole project was quite enjoyable to explore, and it allowed me to learn more than I expected.
