TECHNIQUES APPLIED

For the poster, I mainly used the quick selection tool with select and mask to mask objects and remove backgrounds, with the occasional use of the eraser tool for finer adjustments. I also used hue/saturation and levels to make all the elements black and white, while the brush tool with hard light blending mode and lowered opacity added red hues over certain objects. Besides that, I used grain and threshold effects to add textures to the elements.

For the animation, I applied basic animation techniques alongside more specific tools. The pen tool with strokes added were used to animate the strings on the hand as if they were falling. I also used puppet pins to slightly animate the hand to give some movement. Besides that, pre-compositions and parented null layers were used to combine and animate the eyes in the background. Lastly, the pan behind tool was used to change the origin point of the open head and the eyes.

REFLECTION

Throughout this whole project, I feel like I learned a lot about turning personal ideas into visuals. I really enjoyed making the poster since it’s something I’m more familiar and comfortable with. Because the project was based on something personal, it also made me think more about myself and how I deal with self-doubt. From working on the poster to animating it, I got to try out new techniques and figure things out when they didn’t go as planned. Overall, it helped me understand myself better, both personally and creatively, and how I want to keep improving.
